Morpeth Town Council to install double glazing to improve energy efficiencyTwo community centres in Morpeth could soon be getting double glazing windows as the council attempts to reduce the town's carbon emissions and energy bills.Morpeth Town Council is planning to install double glazing in community centres to improve their energy efficiency.

The council hopes to invest around £50,000 in its St James's and Storey Park facilities by installing insulation, new windows and heating systems, the Morpeth Herald reports.

These renovations will reduce the council's energy bills and carbon emissions.

"At the moment, St James's is the most inefficient centre, but only because it is the oldest," town clerk Gillian Turner told the newspaper.

She explained that it should be fairly straight forward to install a new boiler, loft insulation and double glazing windows at St James's the as these are all "fairly normal jobs".

The current boiler at St James's Centre does not have separate settings for its radiators and hot water, but the one at Storey Park is no better, as it is inefficient, according to the newspaper.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, an average household could save around £135 a year on heating bills if they installed double glazing windows.
