More to property than making money

Relax in your homeRenowned designer Wayne Hemingway claims people should see their homes as more than just a way to make money.Property should be viewed as more than just a means for making money, according to a leading designer.

Wayne Hemingway, renowned fashion designer and co-founder of HemingwayDesign, claims that society is to blame for the current attitude that "bricks and mortar is the passport to the future".

He adds the model of the housing market needs to change to get the younger generation onto it.

Mr Hemingway claims homes should be seen by their owners as places to relax and feel comfortable in, particularly in the current market with house prices tumbling.

"Your house is your home, you kick your shoes off, put your slippers on, relax with your family and grow old. That's what a home is for, it's not necessarily for making money, you make money by working hard and being productive in society," he stated.

HomeServe recently found that Brits spent around £23 billion on home improvements during the last three months.

Respondents identified painting (31 per cent), laying new floors and carpets (14 per cent) and bathroom or kitchen improvements (five per cent each) as the most popular jobs undertaken during the period.
