Get many kitchen quotes before selecting tradesman.Householders should take into consideration a number of kitchen quotes before choosing a tradesman, according to a home improvement expert.Homeowners should consult a number of tradesmen before settling for kitchen quotes, it has been claimed.

Writing for the Guardian, home improvement specialist Marc Lockley commented that good workmanship is particularly vital when it comes to plumbing and electrical work, as shortcuts can be dangerous.

"When it comes to plumbers and electricians, a good deal is not always about the cheapest price," he advised.

"Make sure you appoint a good, appropriately qualified plumber or electrician to do the work, ideally one recommended by friends or family."

He went on to suggest that householders tell tradesmen that they will be considering a number of other quotes and making a decision within a clearly-defined time schedule.

Last month, energy supplier Energex warned homeowners to take particular care with electrical wiring when carrying out improvements to their kitchens.

The group stressed that electricity is one of the most dangerous but poorly-understood issues concerning home improvements.
