A man in Telford is pleading for council support, having being told that he cannot install cheap double glazing and must fit £23,000 sash windows instead.A conservation officer has told a homeowner in Telford that he is not permitted to install cheap double glazing into his property and must instead opt for a more expensive alternative.Stephen Scott told Gorge Parish Council on Tuesday (February 16th) that the conservation officer said he will have to fit sash windows in his home in the Ironbridge Gorge, which could cost more than £23,000, the Shropshire Star reported.Mr Scott told the council that the cheap double glazing he wants and can afford to fit in his home would look exactly the same as his property's existing windows. He appealed to the parish council for support as he said he simply cannot afford the windows that the conservation officer has suggested, but councillor Liz Swift, who chaired Thursday's meeting, said: "There is not really a lot we can do."A Glass and Glazing Federation petition to the government, aimed at making double glazing cheaper for homeowners, is currently gaining signatures. The petition calls for a double glazing scrappage scheme, which would see the government make a contribution to the cost of replacing singled glazed windows with energy-efficient double glazed alternatives.Posted by Mark Moore
