Luxury Cotswold eco home uses latest green technology

Green home improvements help lower property's carbon footprint Green home improvements have helped a luxury six-bedroom property have a carbon footprint equivalent to an average two-bedroom flat. While an increasing number of homeowners are looking to make their properties greener by fitting double glazing and insulation, one couple have taken things a step further.

Environmentalist Paul Lavelle and his partner Sara Anton have splashed out £2 million turning their luxurious house into an eco home with the carbon footprint of a two-bedroom flat, reports the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.

Their Cotswold home, which is next door to actress Liz Hurley's house, features the latest in green technology, including an indoor solar park, underground heat storage, a sewage plant and rain water harvesting equipment.

Speaking to the news provider, Mr Lavelle said that his next project will be building smaller, more affordable green homes, adding: "I want to show how easy it is to build amazing houses that are a joy to live in but low cost and low energy."

A recent study by the Energy Saving Trust found that over a third of Brits would be happy to pay more for a house which features renewable technologies like solar panels or a wind turbine.
