Low carbon zones pledge for London

London mayor makes carbon pledgeBoris Johnson has revealed plans for ten specific low carbon zones in London.The Mayor of London has pledged to cut the carbon footprint of London by setting aside £10 million to develop ten flagship low carbon zones across the capital.

Boris Johnson declared the plans at the HRH Prince Charles' May Day Summit on Climate Change as part of his ambitions to cut overall carbon emissions in London by 60 per cent by 2025 – which could see homes across the capital benefitting from energy-efficient home improvements.

Properties located in the low carbon zones will get home insulation and have smart meters installed to help them regulate energy use.

Mr Johnson said he was "fully signed-up" to "combat climate change and ensure we protect our planet".

He added: "These energy-busting zones will create an armada of flagships across London, focused on finding the most effective ways to rapidly cut carbon and slash energy bills."

Recent research from uSwitch.com found that 78 per cent of homes in the UK are now more energy efficient than they were 12 months ago.
