Leicestershire police make home security call

Police in Leicestershire have issued a home security messageHomeowners in Leicestershire have been urged by the local police force to be vigilant when unwelcome callers visit their properties.Residents in Leicestershire should ensure they take steps to secure their home when visited by unwelcome callers.

The local constabulary has launched a new campaign designed to help people protect themselves from those offering unneeded work at inflated prices, as well as those who may be looking to distract homeowners while partners steal cash or valuables.

According to the police, property owners should keep their UPVC windows and doors locked, while a door chain must be used while the caller's identity is ascertained.

Sergeant Phil Tebbs from Leicestershire Constabulary said: "Unexpected callers can cause huge problems for trusting householders.

"By following simple rules householders can protect themselves."

Recent figures from insurer RIAS found that 4.1 million people over 50 in the UK are more worried about burglary than ever before.
