Leaflets lend hand to home security drive

Police in West Yorkshire are spreading the word on home securityA range of leaflets designed to look like an arm are being used to highlight the importance of home security across West Yorkshire.Police in West Yorkshire are using a range of quirky leaflets to raise awareness of home security across the region, it has been revealed.

Officers are visiting areas in Leeds such as Wortley, Armley and Bramley to find homes where UPVC windows and doors have been left open or valuables have been left on display.

They are then planning to post leaflets shaped as a life-size hairy arm through the insecure areas to warn homeowners of the potential threat of failing to lock up properly.

Inspector Richard Cawkwell, of the West Outer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the unique leaflets will be "eye-catching" and lead people to take "the simplest of precautions".

He added: "I'm sure people would rather have one of our 'hairy arms' as a warning than the arm of real thief taking their valuables."

Police in Avon and Somerset recently launched a new guide to give local people advice on home security.
