Landlords 'are using double glazing to increase property value'Landlords are improving the appeal of their properties to potential tenants by installing double glazing windows, according to IPD Occupiers.Landlords are installing double glazing to increase the value of their rental properties, according to IPD Occupiers.

"Retro-fitting" - installing energy-saving devices such as double-glazing - may not result in immediate increased rental return, but will improve marketability, Glenn Corney of IPD Occupiers, a division of Investment Property Databank, told the Financial Times.

He said that he has seen many landlords and occupiers investing in improving the environmental performance of their properties.

"Landlords would not be doing this if they didn't believe it would have a longer-term pay-off.

"In ten years, no one will want a building without an environmental certificate," Mr Corney explained.

He told the newspaper that, for now, landlords will have to foot the bill but will reap the reward later.

Last week, in a piece for the Evening Herald, interior designer Naoimh Tuohy agreed with this sentiment, writing that an increasing number of buyers are seeking energy-efficient homes.
