Landlady appeals council's order to fit double glazing

Double glazing helps to cut noise pollutionThe landlady of a pub in Stoke is appealing a council decision ordering her to install double glazing and reduce opening hours.A landlady in Stoke told to fit double glazing in her pub to reduce late-night noise pollution is appealing the council's decision.

Staffordshire Police reported the West End in London Road to Stoke-on-Trent City Council's licensing committee after 13 incidents of crime, disorder and noise disturbance were reported at the pub over the last three years, the Sentinel reported.

In July the council ordered double glazing and improvements to doors to reduce noise nuisance. They also enforced a 23:00 GMT limit on activities every day, and a closing time of 23:30 GMT.

Now landlady, Jillian Murphy is appealing against the restrictions, the newspaper reported.

According to the direct.gov.uk noise barriers or noise insulation, like secondary or double glazing, can reduce the problem of noise pollution.

It also recommends that people install double glazing in their homes to block out noise pollution from outside.

If noise from new roads exceeds certain limits at existing houses then householders might be able to get a noise insulation grant, according to the website. These are available through local highway authorities.
