Kitchen quotes: Save money by getting involved in DIY People looking for kitchen quotes could save cash by undertaking some of the labour themselves, an expert has advised.When looking for kitchen quotes, home improvement enthusiasts could save money by completing some of the work themselves.

Tim Doherty, managing director of the National Self Build & Renovation Centre, said that homeowners could dig out their DIY kit and do anything from painting the walls to tearing out and installing the entire kitchen.

However, Mr Doherty added that while householders could save up to £3,000 by fitting their own kitchen from scratch, anyone who is unsure of their abilities should hire professionals to complete the major tasks.

He explained: "Replacing a kitchen could take around ten days - there may be some plumbing and rewiring involved, and a lot of carpentry work ... You could save yourself a few hundred pounds by [simply] ripping out the old one."

Recently, a survey by Swinton Insurance revealed that more than half of young homeowners would prefer to get help from qualified workmen than risk relying on their DIY competency.
