Matt Hill, sales development manager at Arrow Electronics, told representatives at the Architecture, Retail and Commercial Lighting Show preview event that the biggest challenges for the LED industry lie in educating the public about how to "really utilise the functionality and the benefits" of the technology.

Mr Hill said that when customers are looking for appropriate options for lighting in their kitchens, they must consider what they want to achieve with their design.

"The main goal that a lot of people strive for is energy reduction and cost reduction, but equally they can be used for that effect," he said.

Earlier this week, Kandabi.com said that homeowners should attempt to create 'layers of light' when styling their home for the festive season.

Eva Hammerson, head of design at the company, said that mood enhancing lighting can also create visual interest and add "a touch of magic".
