Robin Siegerman told Yourhome.ca readers that bad layouts in the food preparation areas is "like a low level head: it's possible to live with, but life is much happier when it's made better".

She explained that one recent project had seen her renovate a kitchen which was split between two rooms, with the sink and benchspace in one and the fridge, table and cooking equipment in a different room.

In order to create a "unified" space, Ms Siegerman knocked through the wall and made the most of space by using "pint-sized appliances".

She added that round tables are ideal for kitchens with limited space, as corners do not protrude into the path of traffic.
