Interest free loans for double glazing

John Swinney is keen to make all households more energy efficient.The Scottish government is offering homeowners interest free loans to make energy-saving improvements to their homes, such as better insulation or double glazing.Interest free loans are to be offered to householders in Scotland to help to cut their fuel bills and reduce emissions by adding energy-saving home improvements, such as double glazing.

A sum of £2 million is available this year for a pilot loans scheme to help people improve insulation, replace inefficient boilers or install small scale renewables.

Cabinet secretary for finance and sustainable growth John Swinney said: "Energy efficiency is a key part of our economic recovery programme and our climate change ambitions."

He added that "a waste of energy is a waste of money" and said everyone must take steps to cut energy use due to high fuel prices and the need to reduce emissions.

Mr Swinney said that it could cost an average of £7,000 per home to improve household energy efficiency to meet 2020 Climate Change Act targets.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, installing Energy Saving Recommended double glazing can cut heat loss through windows by half.
