Insurer combats UK's carbon footprint

People that make a claim on their home insurance could reduce their carbon footprint if they are covered by M&S Money as the insurer does not replace broken items, such as fridges, on a like-for-like basis, but will pay for a model that has an energy efficiency rating of A, A+ or triple-A, regardless of the extra cost.

A specialist underwriting agency based in Totness, Devon, called Naturesave sells ethical household, travel and business insurance.

It offers discounts on insurance for households that have, among other features, double glazing, cavity wall insulation, and energy-efficient appliances.

Matthew Criddle, founder and managing director of the company, told the Daily Mail: "We try to be proactive in encouraging people to adapt to the environmental challenge."

According to the Energy Saving Trust, households can save around £135 a year on utility bills by installing double glazing.
