The number of people contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau about problems with fuel debt has risen by nearly 50 per cent.People with double glazing can have lower fuel bills, but the Citizens Advice Bureau has announced a huge rise in the number of people contacting its staff with problems arising from fuel debts. The bureau announced a 46 per cent increase in the number of people expressing financial difficulty and said the majority of these were of working age. Commenting on the problem a spokesperson for Which? stated that "transparency and clarity" were the keys to combating the problems. He said: "There's an issue with consumers understanding if what they're paying is fair or not. It's really difficult for someone to look at their fuel bill and try and understand what they are spending their money on, and where it's going." He went on to say that understanding where money is going will help people reduce their consumption, which will help them keep their bills down.According to the Energy Saving Trust, one of the best ways to cut fuel bills is by insulating walls and installing double glazing.Written by Glenn Derbyshire.
