"Huge rush" to complete home improvement projects

Homeowners will be eager to get their DIY jobs complete before the World Cup.Property owners will be in a rush to finish their home improvement projects before this month's football World Cup gets underway, according to an expert.

Anna-Maria DaSouza, deputy editor of Build It magazine, said that people are eager to get their house in order before the tournament starts in case they have friends and family round to share in the experience.

"As the World Cup is beckoning, there will probably be a huge rush on to get jobs done and the garden ready for World Cup barbecues and celebrations, so plants, garden furniture and barbeque sales are likely to soar," she added.

Ms DaSouza went on to say that the warm weather will also inspire people to venture out and catch up on any interior and exterior home improvements which might have fallen by the wayside over the last few months.

Her words came after B&Q owner Kingfisher stated that designer wall covering sales were up by 23 per cent year-on-year, while loft installation sales are also up by more than a quarter.
