Homes near airport to receive cheap double glazing grantsAirline fines are to be used to help people living near East Midlands Airport to install cheap double glazing.More people living near East Midlands Airport are to receive grants towards installing cheap double glazing, which will help to block out the noise from the nearby aircrafts.

Between 2008 and 2009, 22 airlines were fined a total of £22,000 for the noise pollution their aeroplanes created, the Loughborough Echo reports.

This cash is being used to fund community projects as well as being offered to local residents to go towards the cost of contacting uPVC window suppliers and installing cheap double glazing.

Airport bosses told the newspaper that, in the 12 months up to the end of March 2010, there was a massive reduction in the number of complaints about aircraft noise.

They explained that they had received 1,064 complaints, compared to 2,632 in the previous 12 months and 7,128 for the year 2007 to 2008.

Back in February, Andrew Green, managing director of Greenway Home Improvements, wrote on the website Guide2Bristol.com that cutting out noise pollution is not the only benefit of cheap double glazing windows.

He explained that they reduce household bills, make a house warmer and more comfortable, while helping to reduce the amount of condensation in a property.
