Homeowners 'want to move'

'Pent-up-need to move house'One expert claims property owners in the UK have a pent-up desire to move, which could see people improving their homes to increase value.Householders could be looking for home improvements to install measures including double glazing and new doors in order to increase property values, one expert claims.

Simon Preston, chairman of iammmoving.com, claims consumers in the UK are suffering from a "pent-up-need" to move, regardless of the current housing market, which could see homeowners looking to improve their properties to increase its value.

He added: "There is a latent need to move and that need has not been satisfied in the last 12 months so you would expect this spring to see a perk up of interest."

The coming could see a marked increase in property transactions as spring is "always the beginning of the moving season", stated Mr Preston.

Recent data from Rightmove showed the average asking price for a property in April 2009 the UK stood at £222,077 – which was an increase of 1.8 per cent compared to the figures for March.

This was the largest rise seen in the UK housing market for 14 months.
