Homeowners want their new kitchens to be 'eco-friendly'There is currently a trend for eco-friendly new kitchens, according to an interior designer.People looking for a new kitchen at the moment want it to be "eco-friendly or green", according to an interior designer.

Denna McLaughlin told the San Francisco Chronicle that creating a new kitchen which is environmentally friendly encompasses "more than just choosing wood that is sustainable".

Speaking to the newspaper, she said: "There are a lot of different viewpoints on what is green and what is not. The criteria we need to meet to be green is constantly changing."

A lot of a kitchen's components, such as appliances, worktops and flooring, are available in environmentally-friendly options, according to the newspaper.

The designer advised researching where products come from as, regardless of whether they are made of sustainable wood, if they have been transported a long distance then they will still have their own carbon footprint.

For those that have a relatively new kitchen but want to make improvements to their home, interior designer Naoimh Tuohy recently advised adding more double glazing windows to add more light while still retaining heat.
