Homeowners urged to mark Earth Day

Earth from spacePeople across the globe are being encouraged to do their bit to help the planet and celebrate Earth Day 2011.

The event has taken place on April 22 since 1970 and this year it falls on Good Friday. The theme for this year is A Billion Acts of Green, and it is hoped that people in countries all over the world will get into the spirit and do something to help the environment.

Organisers say that whether the gesture is large or small, everything helps. Over 96 million people have pledged to carry out a green act this Friday, and left details of their pledge on the organisation’s official website.

While some people have promised to eat more local food and change the light bulbs in their home, others say they will take shorter showers and wash their clothes in cold water. Other people are embarking on larger scale projects and getting cheap double glazing fitted.

Saving energy is something that businesses and individuals all over the world are attempting to do. Installing double glazed windows is one of the best ways to ensure heat produced in a home remains inside the property.
