According to the Daily Telegraph, many people are choosing to get quotes from companies such as Andrew Macintosh, which specialises in more low-cost renovation work.

Talking to the newspaper, Katherine Griffiths of the firm explained that the impact of such work can still be "dramatic".

She said: "Many clients are sprucing up their dark-painted Shaker kitchens, for instance, and can't believe the difference.

"Undermounted sinks next to a pale stone worktop look great, as do the new silgranite sinks made from crushed granite and resin."

The Drogheda Independent recently reported that a kitchen can be the main selling point of a home, so people should consider renovations when planning a sale.
