Homeowners reminded to lock UPVC windows

People living in Rochdale are being told by the police to ensure they lock their UPVC windows as part of Operation Storm, a force-wide initiative to reduce burglary and increase the number of burglars convicted.Police in Rochdale are advising residents to lock all external double glazed windows, doors and conservatories as they crack down on burglaries during the run-up to Christmas.

Today has seen the launch of increased police activity for the autumn and winter months as part of Operation Storm, a force-wide initiative to reduce burglary and increase the number of burglars convicted.

Latest figures for Rochdale this September show that there were 69 fewer burglaries compared to the previous year, a drop of 57 per cent.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham Stevens of Greater Manchester Police's Rochdale Division said: "Between August and September our burglary team worked tirelessly to arrest 75 offenders for burglary.

"We are sending a clear message to offenders that we won't tolerate crime."

According to Windowinfo.co.uk, 75 per cent of burglars' entry is gained by forcing a window vent or breaking the glass. It advises double glazing, particularly to the rear or side of the property as these windows are at a higher risk of attack.
