Homeowners 'need expert help for major renovations'

Professional help should be sought for some renovation work, it has been claimed Property owners should not underestimate the need for professional help when making major home improvements.Professional help is a must on major home improvements such as kitchen and bathroom renovations, it has been claimed.

Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), said that people can generally undertake certain projects - such as painting and decorating - without any assistance.

However, he warned that experts should be advised on larger or more complex projects around a property.

"In so far as jobs such as new baths and new kitchens, it is as well to get the expert in to do that sort of thing," he explained.

"Not only from the point of view of getting the job well done, but also from a safety point of view too."

Recent research by Saga found that 31 per cent of over-50s in the UK have injured themselves while carrying out improvements on their homes. ADNFCR-2394-ID-19244904-ADNFCR
