Homeowners must 'take responsibility' for energy efficiencyDouble-glazed windows can be used to make properties greener.Installing energy-efficient measures such as double-glazed windows can be all part of homeowners taking responsibility for the environment, according to an industry expert.

Gordon Miller, sustainability and communications director for Sustain, said that it is up to everyone to look at improving the nation's homes.

"Everyone – utilities companies, house builders and homeowners – has to take responsibility for improving energy efficiency in homes, reducing CO2 emissions and in so doing contribute to the UK's legally binding commitment to reduce C02 emissions by 80 per cent by 2050," he added.

Mr Miller went on to say that it was only right and proper that gas and electricity suppliers should contribute towards the carbon emissions reductions target, which obliges them to make sure that CO2 emissions are reduced from homes.

His words came as the Energy Technologies Institute revealed that a new £3 million project is underway to design a supply chain solution to improve the energy efficiency of around 26 million homes.
