Homeowners 'looking to create space rather than sell'

Improve rather than sell A TV homes expert claims Brits are looking to make the most of their current home rather than move.Homeowners are looking to renovate their own homes rather than selling their property, according to one home expert.

George Clarke, presenter of Channel 4 programme The Home Show, claims making the "most of your home" is now "increasingly important" to people across the UK.

Speaking as part of the run-up to the National Home Improvement Show, the TV expert cited a recent study by the show's organisers which found that mortgage lenders are experiencing 50 per cent more demand this year for loans to cover home improvements, which could include projects such as fitted kitchens or new doors and conservatories.

Mr Clarke said: "Homeowners are searching for new ways to add value to their property and create space which will allow them to stay put while still meeting the demands of an ever-changing and evolving lifestyle."

Katherine Griffiths from kitchen manufacture Andrew Macintosh recently told the Daily Telegraph that homeowners are searching for cut-price renovations during the economic downturn.
