Homeowners in 2010 will be The year 2010 will see homeowners being "more inventive" when they decorate their new kitchens and other rooms in the house, according to an interior decorating magazine.Next year homeowners will be "much more inventive" when decorating their properties, House Beautiful magazine has said, which may interest those thinking of creating a new kitchen or new bathroom.

Julia Goodwin, editor of the magazine, said that the decline in house prices has forced people to cancel their plans of moving house and made them settle with making improvements to their current homes instead.

"Because people are staying put, I think it is a really exciting time for the home. People are being much more inventive and personalising their home," said Ms Goodwin.

She explained that 50s and 60s inspired shapes are very popular, as a chunky vases in bright colours, which could add a touch of vibrancy to a new kitchen.

The trend of painting walls neutral or cream is apparently coming to an end and more people are choosing grey for their new bathrooms and other rooms.

"Grey is the new cream, but it is not a heavy, dark grey, it is a light, pretty shade," said Ms Goodwin.
