A report for Moneysupermarket.com stated that with autumn fast approaching, now is the perfect time to start checking that the home is ready for the potentially cold winter ahead.

It added that taking a few simple measures, such as turning down the heating, can have a significant effect on annual bills, and it was important that people start making the changes as soon as possible.

"If you don't yet have double glazing fitted, you'll be amazed at the difference it can make to your annual energy bills. Your initial investment will be fairly high but double-glazed windows will trap more heat inside your home, meaning they will save you money in the long term," the guide stated.

George Clarke, presenter of The Home Show, recently told the Daily Telegraph about the benefits of installing double glazing.
