Homeowners concerned over costs of 'going green'

Homeowners missing out by not going greenNew research has found that homeowners in the UK are not installing some energy efficient measures due to the costs involved.Homeowners in the UK could be missing out by not investing in making their homes more energy efficient, a new study indicates.

Research by uSwitch.com has found that 78 per cent of homes are now more energy efficient that they were 12 months ago.

It also found that 43 per cent of consumers think that being green costs money, with 64 per cent of these stating they had not installed energy-saving insulation in their homes because of the finances involved.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said some consumers could be missing out "on the longer-term savings to be made from investing in making their homes more energy efficient".

She added: "This caution is natural, but it smacks of a missed opportunity."

GreenMoves recently claimed there was still a demand for environmentally friendly properties despite the troubles in the UK housing market, which could see Brits looking to make their homes energy efficient before placing them for sale.
