The English Heritage is preventing Stephen Waddington from installing double glazing windows in his 330-year-old property, so he is seeking suitable alternatives. The owner of a 330-year-old farmhouse is continuing to search for a method of preventing heat from escaping through his windows without installing double glazing - which English Heritage will not permit.Stephen Waddington moved to rural Northumberland with his family two years ago and, since then, has been renovating his property in such a way as to meet eco principles, greenbang.com reports.Heat loss through windows can be cut by half through the installation of double glazing windows, according to the Energy Saving Trust, but Mr Waddington is unable to add this eco-friendly feature as English Heritage does not permit it in historic listed buildings.Mr Waddington writes on greenbang.com that he is considering boarding the windows with shutters to keep heat in, as suggested by English Heritage, but this is only really a practical solution during non-daylight hours."Balancing heritage and environmental design continues to be the biggest headache of the redevelopment of our 300-year Northumberland farmhouse," he concluded.Posted by Sarah Gower
