Homebuyers 'seek properties with cheap double glazing'

Double glazing is appealing to those looking for a new homePeople buying a new home look for properties with cheap double glazing, a survey has suggested.Those looking to buy a new home are increasingly seeking out energy efficient properties with features such as cheap double glazing, recent research has revealed.

A survey by Pilkington energiKare found that 76 per cent of homebuyers now rate energy efficiency as a major deciding factor when purchasing property.

The five energy-saving features that most of those surveyed were interested in were loft insulation, energy efficient boilers, energy efficient heating, energy efficient windows - such as cheap double glazing- and cavity insulation.

Speaking to Pilkington, TV presenter and architect George Clarke said: "What's important is that people are taking steps to change and recognising the added value greener living brings, such as cost savings and increasing the saleability of homes."

He went on to say that installing cheap double glazing can reduce heat loss by up to 90 per cent, compared to single-glazed windows.

Channel 4 Property Ladder presenter Sarah Beeny recently told the Daily Mail that it is essential for those buying a new home to choose a property with double glazed windows.
