Home security 'vital during summer months'

Police are urging homeowners to keep their properties secure this summerProperty owners should not get forget about the basics of home security this summer, police have urged.Homeowners have been urged to bear home security basics in mind when spending time in the sun over the next few months.

Richard Jones, detective inspector at Brierley Hill police station in Dudley, has claimed that burglars are often prepared to go to a range of lengths to enter homes when windows and doors are left open.

Talking to Dudley News, he called on people to ensure UPVC patio doors and windows are all locked - even when they are still in the home.

"Windows should not be left open in rooms that are unoccupied for any length of time," he added.

"This includes upstairs windows being left open during the day while occupants are at work."
