Home security 'should be a high priority'

Homeowners should take more responsibility for the security of their properties, it has been claimedHomeowners have been urged to make sure they take security issues seriously.A police officer has called on homeowners to make the security of their properties a priority in the future.

Sergeant Claire Campbell, of Hamilton Police's community safety department, has called on residents to take such issues seriously as two break-ins have taken place in the local area recently.

She went on to explain that such incidents have made the force keen to "reinforce the message of home security".

"It should be high on the priority list and householders should remember to lock doors and windows when leaving the house or retiring for the evening," she added.

Sergeant Campbell also urged people to buy timers for their lights, as they can act as a deterrent to some thieves.

Recent figures from Gocompare suggested that around a third of Brits have not bought home security products – specifically items for their gardens – in the past 12 months.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19205489-ADNFCR
