Home security 'could help to protect cars'

Car thieves are increasingly looking to steal the keys to vehiclesCar thieves in Liverpool have been stealing the keys for vehicles by breaking into homes, according to reports.Homeowners who boost the security of their property could help to protect their car, a case in Liverpool has suggested.

A recent spate of six burglaries has taken place in the area, with five of them involving burglars who broke into homes through UPVC doors in order to steal car keys, reports the Bootle Times.

Police in the area have stepped up patrols in the area to counter the problems and they are also distributing leaflets with advice on locking up homes properly.

Crosby Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Paul Wright said: "It's just ensuring that they lock it with a key otherwise it makes it easy for people to get into the premises."

Earlier this week, police in Leicestershire also launched a campaign urging homeowners to improve their security and protect themselves from unwanted cold callers.
