Home security 'can cut insurance costs'

Insurance costs can be reduced by boosting home security, an expert has claimedHomeowners could cut their insurance costs by increasing the security of their property, it has been suggested. Those looking to reduce their home insurance premium costs should look at the security of their property, according to a financial advice website.

In a column for Money.co.uk, Sally Darby has claimed that one of the best ways to cut the price of cover is to reduce risk and in terms of housing, that is rather straightforward.

She explained on the site that a range of products can be used to ensure a home is less attractive to prospective burglars.

"You can make your home more secure by fitting insurer-approved locks to your doors and windows, and keeping them locked when you are not at home," she wrote.

"Insurer-approved alarms too will reduce the risk of a break-in, in turn reducing the cost of cover."

The Daily Mail recently revealed that Hertfordshire Police have recruited convicted criminals to help them improve the security of properties in the local area.
