Home renovations 'could cut carbon emissions'

Double glazing 'could cut home emissions'Friends of the Earth claims double glazing and insulation can help make a home more energy efficient. The reduction of carbon emissions could be helped by a number of home improvement renovations, a charity suggest.

Friends of the Earth is calling for the government to pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 42 per cent by the year 2020.

It claims home improvements such as double glazing and cavity wall insulation can play their part in helping to reduce home carbon emissions.

The environmental group is calling for Gordon Brown to offer financial incentives to homeowners in order to improve the energy efficiency of their properties – which could result in an increase in the number of double glazing quotes sought after by Brits.

Ed Mathews, head of UK for Friends of the Earth, said: "Leading scientists have warned that the target recommended by the Government's climate advisors is too weak - Ministers must show political courage and push for a bigger."

Recent research conducted by Ipsos MORI found that homeowners in the UK are enthusiastic towards making their properties energy-efficient, but would need help for the renovations through loans or grants.
