Energy Performance Certificates included in Home Information Packs are encouraging people to make energy-efficient home improvements, such as adding double glazing, according to an expert.Home Information Packs (Hips) can help to reduce carbon emissions, according to the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP).A Hip is a set of documents that must be provided by a homeowner that is attempting to sell their property, or by their agent. The Hip gives potential buyers key information about the property. One of the compulsory items included in a Hip is an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). This highlights how a property can be made more energy efficient, thorough home improvements, such as adding double glazing windows.Mike Ockenden, director general of the AHIPP said that 65 per cent of consumers said they found the information in the Hips useful. He also said that 30 per cent of buyers and sellers said they have implemented one of the recommendations in an EPC, such as installing double glazing or loft insulation to reduce heat loss."That, to me, says that Hips are actually helping to reduce carbon emissions," he added.Written by Mark Moore
