Property owners need to think practically when planning home improvement work, it has been claimed.Consumers that are seeking quotes for home improvement projects including the installation of double glazing and conservatories should be sensible when planning such renovations, it has been suggested.Writing for the Independent, Graham Norwood has claimed that planned work on homes should be "practical and functional" above all else and property owners should rein in their eccentricities. He explained that renovations, including improvements on kitchens and bathrooms, should not make a property less attractive to potential buyers and people should think twice about more extravagant plans including the installation of a swimming pool.In contrast, he claimed making a property more efficient could help to make it more interesting when its comes to selling, adding: "New mandatory Energy Performance Certificates for homes on the market make it easy for buyers to compare different properties."Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, recently called on property owners to ensure renovation work does not make a negative impact on the exterior of a house.
