Home improvements 'popular with Brits'

Halifax carried out the study Over half of property owners in the UK have carried out home improvement work in the past year, according to new figures.Home improvement work remains popular with British property owners, new research a revealed.

According to the study by Halifax, 55 per cent of homeowners have undertaken such renovation work in the past 12 months, with the average amount being spent on projects standing at £5,300.

One of the most popular improvements made was the addition of a conservatory, with around a third of people choosing to add such space to their home in recent months.

A number of people also made garden improvements, redecorated and installed new bathrooms in the past year.

Stephen Noakes, commercial director at Lloyds Banking Group, said: "In the current housing market, many people have decided to stay put rather than move.

"It is no surprise that we've seen an increase in people adding space to their property to make it more suitable for their current lifestyle."

Recent figures from HSBC found that the addition of a conservatory to a property can add over £7,000 to its value. ADNFCR-2394-ID-19185516-ADNFCR
