An expert has advised householders to research DIY projects before attempting them or get a professional in to do the job.Householders looking to improve their homes through DIY projects should carefully plan their work, according to one industry expert.Ben Richards, content editor at housetohome, has said that some DIY home improvements can be easier than believed, but added that people should fully research even small jobs before attempting to do them to avoid potential property damage. He added there are some jobs which need to be left to professional contractors and "even the most serious DIYers" should avoid these and look for a quote from a specialist and qualified worker.Mr Richards stated: "There is a big difference in painting a wall to tackling a plumbing job. As well as being potentially dangerous, it could cost you more than the original job to fix any DIY mistakes."Research by Sainsbury's Home Insurance found that 65 per cent of adults in the UK have attempted DIY tasks in the last 12 months. It found that 38 per cent had performed electrical tasks, 21 per cent done plumbing jobs and even seven per cent have undertaken building projects to save money.
