Home improvement: DIY skills 'to be extinct by 2048'DIY skills amongst men are anticipated to dwindle in the coming years, people searching for kitchen quotes have been told.People that are searching for kitchen quotes have been warned that men in 2048 may not be able to carry out basic DIY tasks, as interest in home improvement dwindles.

The AA has predicted that 20 per cent fewer men will be able to complete handyman tasks by 2030, with DIY being "unknown" by 2048, the Daily Mirror reported.

A poll carried out by the company revealed that around a third of men under the age of 25 were able to fix the last problem that arose with their home fixtures and fittings, compared to 55 per cent of under-35s and 83 per cent of people aged over 55 years old.

In the 1970s, 71 per cent of men had DIY knowledge passed down by their fathers – whereas only 44 per cent are taught this as they grow up now.

Tom Stringer from AA Home Rescue commented: "The 21st century man is keener to show his manliness through his ability to grasp technology than a power tool."

Earlier this week, however, Knoxnews.com reported that more women are looking to install their own kitchen quotes, after taking up DIY as a hobby.
