Home improvement: DIY skills are being 'lost in time' Homeowners are losing the ability to conduct repairs in their homes, which may lead to more people seeking bathroom quotes.Young people are increasingly seeking professional help, such as bathroom quotes, to carry out home improvement projects.

A recent report from Saga Home Insurance said that young homeowners are far more likely to rely on tradesmen to help fix problems in their properties, rather than doing it themselves.

Eighteen per cent of 18 to 44 year-olds would pay someone to fix leaking or broken pipes in their home, while five per cent would try to solve the issue through DIY.

Jason Orme, editor at Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, said that many young people now work such long hours that performing home improvement tasks in their spare time is the "last thing they want to do".

He added: "A lot of these skills have been handed down from generation to generation and are beginning to be lost in the midst of time. It is a real shame."
