Over half of Brits do not have basic DIY skills, according to new figures from the Energy Saving Trust.New research by the Energy Saving Trust has revealed that over half of Brits do not know how to carry out basic home improvement tasks. While homeowners would need professional help for improvement projects such as double glazing, the study found that 53 per cent of respondents are not confident enough to do DIY jobs such as draught proofing doors or insulating pipes. According to the Energy Saving Trust, such people could save up to £220 million by improving their knowledge and making efficient improvements to their properties. Philip Selwood, the chief executive of the body, said: "Bank Holidays are the perfect time to take stock and check which DIY jobs will save you cash on the household bills. "But our research shows many Brits are shying away from easy cash savings by ignoring simple, energy saving tasks which need to be done around the home." Recent figures published by the Residential Landlords Association revealed that energy efficiency is a key factor which tenants bear in mind when looking to rent a property.
