Green Party manifesto: Everyone will get cheap double glazing

Under Green Party proposals, all homes could have cheap double glazing like this.All UK homes could get cheap double glazing or other forms of insulation if the Green Party is elected.The Green party's election manifesto outlines plans to ensure all UK homes get insulation, which could include cheap double glazing.

If elected, the party promises to adopt a two-pronged approach to reduce carbon emissions by investing both in insulation and microgeneration initiatives.

Martyn Williams, parliamentary spokesperson for Friends of the Earth, said that of all of the political parties, the Greens have the most ambitious plans when it comes to saving energy in the home.

"All parties know that the home is the area where it is actually quickest and cheapest at cutting emissions, and also in many ways the most popular, as you are making people's homes more comfortable," he said.

Mr Williams continued that the party's policy to focus on eradicating fuel poverty may not save a huge amount of carbon dioxide but it would save many elderly lives that would usually perish in cold conditions due to the lack of features such as insulation and cheap double glazing.

Last month, the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee stated in a report that the government's 2010 target of the eradication of fuel poverty in vulnerable households was going to be missed.
