A new consultation on the government's green building regulations has been launched. The government has announced the launch of a new consultation on proposed changes to building regulations.Housing minister John Healey revealed the plans, which will mark Westminster's first steps in to make properties across the UK more energy efficient through measures including double glazing and insulation. The proposals, which may impact on home improvement work, would require a 25 per cent increase in energy efficiency standards for new homes and buildings from October next year.Discussing the consultation, Mr Healey said the changes mean "we are not only building to better standards, but making homes cheaper to heat and run for the families living in them".He added: "It could mean savings of up to £100 a year for an average home."The Welsh Assembly Government recently launched a competition looking for the most energy efficient property designs in the UK.
