Government to announce efficiency plans

Ed Miliband is to announce the plansThe government is preparing to launch new proposals to improve the energy efficiency of households across the UK.New measures are to be announced by the government that will see energy saving measures installed in homes across the UK.

Ed Miliband, the energy and climate change secretary, is expected to unveil the plans – which will cover issues such as renewable energy as well as household efficiency - later today (July 15th).

The Daily Telegraph reports that proposals include the introduction of a new fund of up to £5 billion for homeowners to install measures such as double glazing and UPVC doors at their properties.

It is believed that as the measures will cut energy use, the extra cost will be levied on bills.

New research by Halifax found that energy saving measures offer the best return on investment of any home improvement work.

The items can add over £4,000 to the value of a property, while costing just £1,722 on average to install.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19266083-ADNFCR
