Government considers conservatory standards

New efficiency standards could be brought in for conservatories The government is looking at ways to boost the energy efficiency of conservatories, it has been revealed.Housing minister John Healey has revealed the government wants to hear views on the possibility of introducing efficiency standards for conservatories.

In a written statement, he has revealed that while the projects can be a good way to boost space in the home, they are known to also increase the carbon emissions produced from properties.

He went on to explain that new proposals could see the cost of having such an extension made rise slightly in the future.

"We are asking whether we should expect people to spend an estimated additional £400 on a £10,000 new conservatory to improve its energy efficiency," he added.

Recent figures published by HSBC found that the construction of a conservatory can increase the value of a property by over £7,000.

Loft conversions were found to add over £13,000 on to the cost of a home.
