Ann Robinson and Annie V Schwemmer, from Renovation Solutions, told Desert News readers that a properly laid-out space should be "seamless" and "effortless", with a focus on "flow and order".

Applying these principles to a kitchen means that, despite the range of configurations that are possible, there is a formula which should be considered when arranging the layout of key appliances.

They explained: "Experts tell us that a well-designed kitchen arranges the refrigerator, the sink and the stove or the oven in such a way as to allow easy, efficient movement between these work stations. This is called the work triangle."

Ms Robinson and Ms Schwemmer added that, in practice, this means that the length of the triangle should add up to between 12 and 26 feet, with each 'leg' between four and nine feet long.

Last week, Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom editor Ronnie Whelan said that homeowners are increasingly looking for the "wow factor" in their kitchen quotes.
