Glasgow homes get double glazing installed

Double glazed homesOver 400 homes in Glasgow have had double glazing installed as part of a new £1.5 million scheme.Hundreds of homes across Glasgow are now benefitting after having double glazing installed in them.

Over 400 tenants of the North Glasgow Housing Association have had the energy efficient windows installed as part of a £1.5 million project to improve homes under its control.

The work was devised to help ensure that all the properties meet the Scottish Housing Quality Standard - a strict set of guidelines implemented by the country's government for houses in the social rented sector.

Robert Tamburrini, chief executive of North Glasgow Housing Association, said: "Completion of the works will make a very real difference to tenants by ensuring they have warm, dry and safe homes.

"By making the homes more energy efficient it will also make them more cost effective to heat."

Dr Richard Dixon, head of WWF Scotland, recently told the Scotsman that insulation or double glazing should be forcibly installed in homes if necessary, with a bill then presented to the owners.

He stated it "should be a crime to be wasting energy".
