A Freedom of Information request has revealed how important it is for homeowners to make sure they employ reputable tradesmen.
Data obtained by the Dumfries and Galloway Standard newspaper shows homeowners in the region have made almost 500 complaints about work carried out by building firms in the past three years. Complaints covered a wide variety of issues relating to gas boiler installations, the use of sub-standard double glazed windows and unfinished new kitchen refits.
The council’s trading standards department was contacted by members of the public about one particular rogue trader on 18 separate occasions.
Customers unhappy with repairs made to the roofs of their home accounted for 60 of the complaints, while 87 related to the installation of central heating systems.
The news highlights the importance of requesting double glazing quotes and UPVC doors quotes from reputable companies that can be trusted to carry out home improvements to a high standard.
